Psalm 136:3

1 Thessalonians 5:18

I will offer You a sacrifice of thanksgiving and will worship the Lord.
Psalm 116:17

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6

What are you supposed to do when you wake up in the middle of the night? According to Psalm 119:62, you’re supposed to thank God. The writer of Psalm 119 even wakes up on purpose in the middle of the night just to thank and praise God. Thanking God is a part of his daily and nightly routine. How much do we thank God? How much is it a part of our daily routine? Do we have a time set aside to thank and praise God each day?

One of my daughters friend’s ate dinner with us recently and mentioned that her family always began their prayers with words of adoration to God. They committed themselves to beginning their prayers with words of thankfulness. This practice does reflect God’s command in Philippians 4:6 of being thankful when we pray.

I have listed just of a few of the many verses in the Bible that talk about the need for thankfulness in our lives. Thankfulness changes our attitude. It helps us to remember God’s blessings in our lives. When we remember God’s blessings, it also helps us to recognize how truly powerful God is and how much He loves us. Thankfulness not only blesses the heart of God, but it brings blessings to our own hearts as well.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for loving me. I can’t come close to understanding the depths of your love, for me, a sinner. Thank you for the saving grace you gave to us through the death of your only son, Jesus Christ.

Father, you have richly blessed my life. Not with wealth. Not with things. You’ve blessed me with a wonderful family, each one precious in your eyes and mine. I thank you for their lives and ask that you comfort and protect them.

Thank you Lord for your peace when times are trying. Thank you for your hope when I have none. Thank you for your everlasting love.
